Since Ruby is our third baby, our car seat was “expired” and we were on the hunt for a new one… ideally, a lighter-weight version. My sister, Nina, had done a lot of research as well and found the Nuna Pipa from Nuna, a Dutch company with thoughtful and sophisticated design in its baby products. Safety is my highest concern and I loved that the Nuna Pipa comes with a base that has an additional safety leg for stability.
AND the amazing perk is it weighs in at only 7.9 lbs! (So helpful with all my work traveling!)
An additional selling point is their dream drape. It’s essentially a cover extender built into the car seat canopy, pulling down the carseat providing additional light shielding -which I love, because I don’t have to worry about a carseat cover. (I do wish the magnets were a little stronger, though.)
Installation with the base literally takes 5 seconds so it’s not an issue moving the base in and out of different cars.

These recipes have been posted before, but never together, making this combo a double-threat. Two days ago, I made 9 dozen of these for a friends’ wedding and I added a little raspberry dust to kick up the tart factor.
Originally, I made this strawberry frosting when I developed the recipe for this cake. It’s rich, and amazing. The sugar cookie dough is also my favorite –super soft, as long as you don’t overbake them and keep the thickness at 1/2″. Enjoy!

Recently, we celebrated Cole’s 2nd birthday with a ball-themed party because the boy is obsessed with any sport involving a ball. We served homemade J-Dawgs (we use J-Dawg sauce, Kirkland all-beef dogs, and Shirley’s buns), cupcakes with gumballs, and a peaches-n-cream almond cake, surrounded by gumballs and old-fashioned balloon cake picks.
Cole ended up breaking out with a fever so we didn’t do as many activities as planned, but I had a ball pit (in a blow-up swimming pool) and balloons everywhere with foam noodles (cut in half) to be swords or bats to hit the balloons around the park.
I made surprise balls for the children (a la Jordan Ferney) that included little toys, balls, dinosaurs, bracelets, stickers and tattoos. -They were the hit of the party, for sure.
Can’t believe our little baby is already 2!

Here are some little cupcake turkeys I made for Evie’s church primary teachers. All the children wrote what they were thankful for on the feathers and popped them into the cupcake to say thank you to their primary teachers who work so hard to prepare amazing lessons each week.
For Evie’s 4th Birthday, she requested Strawberry cake -I think it was a memory from our beach trip to Florida earlier this year where we had Sugaree’s Strawberry Layer Cake. Since then, I’ve been on the hunt for a great strawberry cake recipe. I was surprised that my favorite of the versions included a cake mix and jello (since I’m a make-from-scratch baker) but the result is unbeatable -the layers are so soft and the frosting melts in your mouth. The flavor of the fresh strawberries is strong and it has so quickly become the new favorite birthday cake. I’ve already made it 3x this past week!
The cake has its quirks… it is very delicate and the frosting can get too runny and loose if directions aren’t followed closely. Shortcuts aren’t recommended here, because the result is so worth wait!
Once I saw these beautiful surfaces, I wanted to photograph marbled food on them and was lucky enough to work with such talent to make it happen even more beautifully than I’d envisioned. Thank you to Veronica, Cassidy and Megan!

Evie is FOUR!
Evie gets to choose the theme of her birthday parties, and this year’s was the best. She chose to have a Scissors Party, but I couldn’t come up with enough activities that wouldn’t keep me in a complete panic, so her second idea was a Mommies & Babies party -and how perfect was that?
Evie decided on inviting three friends, so with a party that small, I could do something more special, and not spend money on party decorations. Instead, she gave her friends a personalized baby carrier so they could carry their babies around during the party.
The girls started with a little tea party of pudding in tea cups, juice, crustless pb&j, strawberries and candies. They “fed” their babies until they were all full. Next, the girls chose hard-bodied babies to bathe. I had two plastic tupperware filled with soapy water and provided washcloths, soap and dry towels. Evie said washing the babies was their favorite part. It was amazing how intense the girls were about all things they “had to do” for their babies. They didn’t need any help at all. Next, I had clothes, diapers and wipes out for them to use and they dressed their babies. After a stroller parade, the girls found quiet corners and blankets to sing their babies to sleep and lay them down for a nap. Presents and Evie’s favorite Strawberry cake were next and before we knew it, the party was over!
I highly recommend this party theme for this age group. The girls loved playing pretend and having these sensory experiences that they have always observed from grownups, but have rarely been a part of. They loved it and Evie kept saying over and over, “I loved my party! That was so fun!”
Pictures aren’t the greatest… you know that saying about the shoemaker’s children… I was busy watching them.
The Ice Princess shoot was a fun collaboration that was in the works for a year before it was finally shot. It was a race against time -though this was shot in Utah in February, the weather warmed so quickly, we had to keep changing locations! Find the published feature in Babiekins Winter Issue 15.
